Dec, First Half

First half of December has past. Time passes so quickly when you're having holiday~
Just another half a month and it's time to go back to school to start my second year. Shall enjoy my remaining holiday before I go back to school and start on all my core modules.

Looking back at my calendar for the first half of December, I haven't been doing much as compared to November. Probably just went away for awhile with a few classmates for a gathering cum getaway. Felt like we haven't seen each other for a very long time, the last time was on the day of our last paper I guess.

Christmas is coming in a week time, are you prepared for the gift exchange or thought of how you gonna spend this day?

Stop Bullying

I saw this picture somewhere online and find it rather interesting and true. Many does not know that those they bully, be it physical or mentally, either ends up better then the bullies or the bullies would have left a scar in them.

Stop bullying. You might find that it's a joke, but it might be hurting someone from within.

Quote Of The Day

People are always changing, whether you notice it or not. What we go through each and everyday contribute to the change in our behaviour or how we look at things. No matter you observed it or not, it's already happening. Some changes in people are really small or it's from the inside. This are most of the time a change in your thinking or the way you look at something. People only realise when you share you thoughts or views. Sometime when someone told you "You've changed", that's when there's too much a change that even outsiders could tell.

People are changing rapidly, without noticing. We do not know what we will become in the future so just make sure we spent our time well & create good memories as memories does not change.

A lady who changed me

When I was in primary school, I was a very very mischievous kid. One with seriously a lot of problem that teachers really have a headache with.

Let me recall what I did when I entered primary school. When I was in primary one, I was like any other primary one kids. Really obedient, shy & quiet. But as I proceed to primary two, everything changes.

When we're given a homework, I throw them in the classroom behind the metal cabinet so that when I'm home mummy can't find any homework that I have. When it's recess time, I sit on the latch of the third level like though enjoying the view, I kind of like it though but I scare the hell out of my principal, teachers & prefects. I mean I wasn't thinking of doing anything silly but I guess they read it that way. After that few incidents, I have to be followed around by a prefect every recess time. When I'm in class, I sleep. When any teacher wanna punish me, I would gladly just walk out of the classroom and sit outside. One hell of a rebellious kid in primary two.

Most of my teachers gave up hope on me. My mum get all the complain without fail every week. Either homework missing, not being a good kid in school and any other reason, there's always a complain, every week. Teachers try to be nice to me and thinking hopefully I would be nice to them and not give them so much headache, but I guess it didn't work out.

But there was this particular teacher who didn't give up hope on me. She didn't categorise me as a different student though I'm super mischievous. She treated me like how she would treat any of her other students. She didn't give up hope on me either.  Knowing that I have problem paying attention in class, she took the time out to give me 1 to 1 so that I could learn better. She did that without fail everything she read an "I don't get that" face on me or whenever she see me dozing off in class.

Slowly I start like to her, I start to like going to class, and slowly, I realize she also changes my behaviour. I turn into someone who isn't much of a headache to the teachers anymore. I become more cooperative. She showed me so much patient, so much attention, care & love at that point of time when most of the teachers thought that I was already hopeless.

Till this day, I'm grateful towards her. When I completed my primary two and proceed to primary three, she no longer teaches in my school anymore. I was glad that I met her and was thought by her. She has made such a big influence in me.

And there is one thing that is such a coincident.
My name: 群惠
Her name: 慧群
Same han yu ping yin but direct flip of the words.

Ms Tan, thanks for all the attention, time & care you had for me.
Thanks for not giving up on me like how others did. You made me a better person.

I believe everyone would meet into someone who would changed them into a better person.

Zoukout 2013

The yearly dance music festival by the beach is finally here again, time for ZoukOut 2013!
Every year, ZoukOut has fantastic DJs in the line up over 2 days. The party of the year I would say.  For this year's line up, do check it out at www.zoukout.com/line-up/

Remember when I was younger, I went once for ZoukOut. It's the time which some people tone & shape their body for. Babe dressed in bikinis / beachwear while hunks in surfer shorts. Woah~ All the hot body man!

Years passed by and I haven't been back since then. Always saying that I would go next year and my next year never seem to end! I wonder when I would not be lazy and really do go join the party once again. Or maybe I'm too old for it already. Haha.

If my favourite DJ is in the line up for ZoukOut that particular year, I would probably go without considering. I missed it the other time he was in Singapore!
❤ Armin van Buuren ❤

Those who went, have fun! :)

Babyboy's 1st birthday

My babyboy is finally 1 year old. Born on such a nice date 12/12/12.

So quickly 1 year has past. I remember when he first came to my place he was only about 6 weeks, roughly my palm size only. But now he's so fat and round, just like a furball. I had so much more smiles after I had him.

Babyboy, mummy love u.

A Movie I Never Got Sick Of ~ The Leap Years

"It's better to have love and lost then never to have love at all"

The Leap Years is a locally produced film which was released on February 29, 2008.
The date that it was release actually has a connection to the movie. I would say that when I first watch this movie, it exceeded my expectation as during that point of time, local production wasn't much of a different from one another.

The movie was base on the book "Leap of Love" by Dr Catherine Lim. The story was about a young Singaporean girl who happen to chance upon her special someone on February 29. She then took the courage to ask him out in a very unique way. She asked the man out based on the Irish leap year tradition where a men cannot refuse a proposal or date from a woman should she do so on February 29. Till now, I'm still looking for the book & DVD.

"A saint once decreed that a man must agree to a woman’s proposal today.
So I’m writing to see, if you would partake with me a date.
Give me a sign, as I’m hidden from your eyes, to meet me at eight.
At the same place you sit, to fulfil the tradition of February 29th."

They made a promise to meet up on every February 29 "same time same place". It's called Windows Cafe, in the movie, located at Club Street which is now replaced by a new restaurant called Seven on Club. The man happen to be engaged when he fell in love with her. Their love story spans 16 years, a total of 4 leap years, as they realise the pain of love until they take the leap of faith, and also the leap of love.

The movie also has a nice blend of music by Corrine May, a local musician, singer & songwriter. Once of the songs made a very deep impression in me, Scars. The lyrics made me really kept me thinking for quite awhile.  It was since then that I started listen to her songs. She has this really nice voice & the music are always very simple. Her songs gives me a heartfelt feeling.

"Losing myself, gaining it back again, forging strength from weakness"

If you're looking for a simple love story that you can relate to, with artistic style in directing and a love story of a typical love-no love with light-hearted endings, this is what you should watch.

A trailer to watch and see if it's attract you to wanna watch the movie

"A saint once decreed, that a man must agree, to a woman’s proposal today.
So show me a sign, as I’m hidden from your eyes.
If you, will have me, for the rest of your life.
And forever end the tradition of February 29th."

Today is the is the last time in this century the date lines up in consecutive order.

Many people around the world are tying the knot, spending time with their love ones, treating this day really special.

So what are you gonna do on this day that would not be happening in the next 90 years or so. But no matter what it is, have fun & I hope you enjoy your day.

Kukup Trip 16-17Nov

Went for a super short 2D1N trip with my mum and her cousins to Kukup, Malaysia, sometime after my paper. It was a great trip though it was short.
We went in a group of 10 pax so we had a mini van to get us to Kukup. In between we had breakfast stop, went to some temple, gotten some fireworks, headed for lunch at Kukup follow by the kelong tour.
A group photo after lunch while waiting for our ferry to the kelong for the tour

During our kelong tour, most of us wasn't really paying attention. I pity the little boy doing the tour.

While waiting for our ferry back to land, we decide to camwhore

Our apartment for 2D1N
With a really big living room

The view just outside our living room

We got comfortable & it's own time own target till dinner time, so I had mahjong!

Our bbq dinner~

Highlight of the night.
Setting off floating lanterns,

Plus fireworks!
You can create your own national day they if you want.

Follow by bedtime.
Mum & cousins prefer to sleep on the floor with the mattress like how they use to when they were young

Day 2 was just breakfast + lunch and it's time to head back home.
But before we leave our kampong house, a last "family" photo.

If you're really thinking of going to Kukup for a short trip like this, gather your friends and go together. It was less than $100/pax, including transport from Singapore + 2 lunch for 2 days + 1 bbq dinner + 1 breakfast + accommodation.
Have fun~

Update for the month of Nov, which has ended

Nov was the start of my holiday but yet it was a pretty pack month.

Went over to Batam after my papers for a short getaway. Was staying at Holiday Inn Hotel and I got a free room upgrade to a 2 bedroom suite. Gosh. What to do with the extra room. Had good massage at a reasonable price, or maybe slightly lower. I guess I finally understood why people always head over to Batam for a good massage.

After coming back from Batam, took a week of break in Singapore and I'm headed to Kukup in Malaysia. It was a pretty nice trip. We get to put our own firework had really good meals and staying just by the seaside. Really kampong style and I do love it. Will write another post about the trip instead.

Apart from the travelling, I lost someone dear to me. It was heartbreaking. But it's part of a process in life, everyone has to go through it. Took some time to deal with it and it wasn't easy.

Dear Nov, you haven't really been nice to me.
Dear Dec, please be nicer then Nov am to me.

A period I would wanna live in...

If I could choose in which time I lived in, I would choose the 1550s and preferably in France. I don't take history so pardon me if there's any mistake.

From my understanding, in the 1550s, France was turmoil from the religious conflicts of the reformation and the kingdom was divided into Huegenot Protestant forces and Catholic loyalists. Apart from all the war, dying & fighting, Mary, Queen of Scots married the Dauphin of France, Francis, who ascended the French throne as King Francis II in 1559. If you would have to read up on Mary's timeline, you would have seen that this poor queen actually went through quite a bit even though she's born with royal blood.

But my liking for that era wasn't for all this sad stuff! But I truly admire Mary. In the 1550s at France, people were dressing really beautifully & they building architecture work was pretty remarkable too. In my opinion, France has always been a city of art and I believe it goes a long way back.

If you're wondering how people dress like in the 1550s, here are a few example:

People at that time do care about what they are wearing and how they look. Nowadays, people get lazy with that, sometime I do too.

At that point of time, masquerade still exist. This is one of the things I would die to join! You don't see anyone holding masquerade nowadays. People with beautiful dress, fantastic ballroom & pretty mask. Gosh~

I've always wanted to visit France for their heritage, art & many more.
Few years down the road, I'll make my way there!

Favourite Photographer Of The Year ~ Barry Seah

Yet another shoot done this year, by who?
By Barry Seah again! Another last minute arranged shot that turn out well :)
I'm waiting for the rest of the photos before I talk about this shoot. Meanwhile, I shall share more about the photographer instead.
In my previous post on my favourite photo of the year, one of the photographer I introduce was Barry Seah. Recently, he was featured as canon EOS professional fashion photographer on Canon's website. In the featured article, Barry talked about what he believes to be his key in getting a good studio shot, his experience and some of his thoughts that help him excel further in the industry. You can read the article HERE.
One of the line he said that I really like "Many photographers have that mentality that Photoshop can solve everything – which is not a good habit to have. It is important to get it right 90% on camera before post processing" I totally agree to what he say! I know photoshop can make photo look extremely good but if everyone does that or overdo it, all photos will turn out to be so different from the raw picture taken by the photographer. I feel that photoshop is meant for fine-tuning the picture only and not causing major change in the photo. I know some girls who are really good in using photoshop that their picture turn out to be such a beauty. But if you ever meet into them, compare it with the photo, you'll be shocked.
After so much talking and if you're wondering who Barry is, here's how he look like! Yan dao right? But sorry ladies, he's taken.
*Pictures stolen from his Facebook*

Some serious passion for photography you have there dude.
Barry has done some sharing session and would be coming up with some photography workshop for photo enthusiasts. If you're interested, do checkout his Facebook page regularly for the release of any news about it as currently the details are yet to be confirmed.

Favourite Photos Of The Year

A bridal theme shot I took with The Aisle Bridal.
I look like I'm in dreamland . Such a dreamy feel and I really like how it looks. To be frank, I didn't expect the photos to turn out so well as I was really tired from my activity on that day. Surprisingly, it turn out so well that it became one of my favourite photo of the year.

Also taken by The Aisle Bridal
I like the way I look here. I look so peaceful, so happy, like though I'm really gonna be a bride. The smile does seem like it's coming from within my heart. And lastly, it didn't show any of my tiredness of the day :p

If you're getting married or preparing for you personal bridal shoot, you can consider The Aisle Bridal. The staff are really friendly and they do have a large range of gown for you to choose from. The gown I wore was short at the from & long at the back. It was suggested to me by one of the staff. She says that it would suit me as I'm still young, no need to cover everything up.

So if you intend to look for The Aisle Bridal, you can head down to:
61 Tanjong Pagar Road
Singapore 088482
Tel: 6289 6888
Operating Hour 12noon till 9pm
Best to make an appointment before heading down as they are pretty pack at times.

Next up is a fire ring shot I did with Barry. A last minute shoot that turn out pretty well. When ever I model for Barry, it's always a last minute planning thing and surprisingly it all turn out well. I like the unique concept of fire ring around me. It's not something everyone would think of and I'm honoured to be able to join this shoot.  We did another car shoot, the photos are not completed yet. I shall share them in another post. Can't wait for the photos to be ready!!

Anyway, Barry also has his own studio. Not only does he do photography, he also does large format printing, graphic design, instant print photo booth service and many more. If you wanna know more, you can visit his studio page HERE or visit Barry's photography portfolio HERE

Selfie of the year!

If you're wondering why is it this photo when it's so normal looking & especially when I'm without makeup, it's because of what's behind me. If you realise the violet field behind of me, it's lavenders! Lavenders are my favourite and that is why this photo is the selfie of the year. No doubts!

Hopefully they'll be more nice photos taken in the coming 2014
